Illustration

Definition · Agora · · v1.0

Illustration designatesa concrete example that makes another claim vivid — it shows an instance, it does not derive anything: no reasoning depends on it and nothing follows from it.

It is not challenged as reasoning: an illustration is apt or inapt, representative or misleading, but it proves nothing on its own — one disputes whether it truly exemplifies the claim, not whether it is 'valid'.
