Extract designatesa passage drawn verbatim from a work at a precise location (page, chapter, verse): it cites the one work it comes from and pins the locator, so the appropriations built on it can point back to exactly what was said.

It is contested on fidelity: whether the passage is transcribed accurately, at the stated location, in the edition cited.
